On Saturday, 18th August 2024, Hope Netball Club held its inaugural 5K Fun Run in Redcar, drawing an incredible turnout in support of Teesside Mind.
The event, organised by Baker Corbyn and Gina Briggs, was a remarkable success, bringing the community together to raise awareness and funds for mental health services in Teesside.
The Fun Run kicked off at 1:00 PM, following a lively registration at Kirkleatham Museum Car Park, where participants gathered from 12:15 PM. The event was officially opened by Ian Hart, the Deputy Mayor of Redcar, who spoke passionately about the importance of mental health support in the region.
Runners of all ages took part, with adults paying an entry fee of £10 and children between the ages of 5 and 15 entering for £5. The scenic route led participants along Redcar seafront, culminating in a celebratory atmosphere at the finish line. Volunteers from Teesside Mind were on hand, cheering on the runners and offering their thanks for the community’s support.
Hope Netball Club’s organiser, Gina Briggs, expressed her gratitude, saying, “This day was for Teesside Mind, and we cannot wait to do it again next year. A massive thank you to everyone who turned up and supported this cause.”
The event saw enthusiastic participation from the local community, with many expressing their desire to see the event become an annual fixture. Baker Corbyn, co-organiser, praised the volunteers and supporters, stating, “We came together to make this dream a reality. We did it, and we can’t wait to go bigger and better next year!”
Matt Campbell, Teesside Mind’s fundraising officer said: “We’re absolutely thrilled by the incredible support shown at Hope Netball Club’s 5K Fun Run. Events like these are vital for raising awareness and funds that enable us to continue our mission of providing essential mental health services across Teesside. The turnout today is a testament to the strength and compassion of our community. Every participant, volunteer, and supporter has played a part in making a real impact on the lives of those we serve. We’re deeply grateful and excited to see this event grow even bigger in the years to come.”
With the funds raised going directly to Teesside Mind, the 5K Fun Run not only promoted physical well-being but also played a crucial role in supporting mental health initiatives across Teesside. Plans are already in motion for the 2025 run, with organisers hopeful for an even larger turnout.
