A Way Out Expands Its Reach with New Middlesbrough Base

A Way Out, a dedicated charity working tirelessly to support some of the most vulnerable members of the Teesside community, has opened a new base in Middlesbrough.

After several years of active outreach in the area, the charity has acquired a new building on Wilson Street, further expanding its safe spaces for those in need.

Middlesbrough’s Mayor Chris Cooke recently visited the new premises to personally welcome the charity to the town. During his visit, he commended A Way Out’s vital work in supporting women, young people, and families across Teesside, helping them break free from harm, abuse, and exploitation.

The charity, originally based in Stockton, has also recently been honoured with the prestigious Silver Quality Mark for Trauma-Informed Work. This makes A Way Out the only organisation in the North East to achieve this recognition. The award highlights the charity’s commitment to meeting rigorous global standards in trauma-informed care, ensuring that their services prioritise the individual needs and well-being of those they serve.

A Way Out’s CEO, Kay Nicolson, expressed her pride in receiving the award, stating: “We are immensely proud to receive the Silver Quality Mark for Trauma-Informed Work. This recognition reaffirms our commitment to providing a safe and supportive environment for the vulnerable women, young people, and families we serve across Teesside. We are proud to be the first charity in the region to receive this distinction, which underscores our dedication to excellence and innovation in trauma-informed care.”

Mayor Cooke echoed these sentiments, saying: “It’s impossible to overstate the importance of charities like A Way Out. We are fully committed to supporting them as they provide compassionate, expert help to some of the most disadvantaged people in our communities. There is no place for harm, abuse, and exploitation in a modern, caring society, and I’m delighted to welcome them to Middlesbrough.”
