Patients undergoing hip and knee replacements at the North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust are now using the mymobility app to prepare for and recover from surgery. The platform provides digital education and post-operative advice directly to smartphones.

Since the service launched in February, over 150 patients have registered. Jacky Harbottle, a patient from Blackhall, used the app to track her recovery following a knee replacement at the University Hospital of Hartlepool. She noted that the app kept all her paperwork and exercise prompts in one accessible location, helping her feel better prepared for the procedure.

Orthopaedic consultant Anwar Jafri and registrar Mo Helmy led the rollout in collaboration with Apple and Zimmer-Biomet. The technology allows teams to monitor activity levels and adjust care plans remotely based on progress reports and biometrics.

The trust intends to assess whether the app can support patients in other clinical areas. Specialist nurse Leeann Thomson confirmed that the platform has also acted as a central hub for sharing video demonstrations and exercise reminders, providing additional reassurance to patients.
