You do not need to be able to tell a porpoise from a dolphin at half a mile to join Tees Valley Wildlife Trust’s next social sea watch in Saltburn.

The free gathering takes place on Sunday 20 September from 10.30am to noon at the Fossil Garden beside the top of Saltburn’s Victorian cliff lift.

Experienced volunteers will be there alongside newer sea watchers, with the group looking out for dolphins, other marine mammals and seabirds from the clifftop above the beach and Huntcliff Nature Reserve.

The Trust says families, beginners and experienced watchers are all welcome. There is no need to book, and people can stay for the full session or simply drop in. The meeting point is fully wheelchair accessible and dogs are welcome on leads.

Binoculars are useful if you have them, but they are not required. Visitors are advised to dress for the weather, which on the Saltburn clifftop is sensible advice in any month of the year.
