Home-educated children can spend a day making art at Preston Park Museum and work towards a nationally recognised Arts Award at a dedicated workshop on Tuesday 8 September.
The session is aimed at children aged seven to 12 and will use Henri Matisse's cut-paper work as its creative starting point. Participants will explore the museum, make their own work and build a portfolio recording what they have discovered and created.
By the end of the day, children will have completed the activities needed for Arts Award Discover, an introductory qualification that encourages young people to explore the arts, take part in creative activity and share what they have learned.
The workshop runs from 10am to 2pm and is small, with ten places available. Preston Park says the £10 child ticket includes museum admission, materials and the Arts Award certificate. One accompanying adult can attend free with each child.
The day will be led with support from the museum learning team and local artist Kat Lynas. Families are asked to bring lunch, with the workshop structured as a full creative day rather than a short drop-in activity.
For home-educating families, sessions built around recognised programmes can offer something a little different from ordinary museum visits: a chance to make, talk, reflect and come away with a record of the learning that took place.
