Young musicians in Middlesbrough will be able to get back into rehearsal rooms this autumn as Musinc’s Bandjam programme returns to Middlesbrough Town Hall.

The weekly sessions are built around playing with other people rather than learning in isolation. Bandjam Juniors, for children aged eight to 11, meets on Tuesdays from 4.45pm to 5.45pm, while Bandjam Seniors is aimed at 12 to 17-year-olds and runs from 6pm to 7pm.

Participants can develop skills in guitar, bass, keyboard, drums or vocals with professional tutors, before bringing those parts together as a band. Musinc says there are opportunities to perform live during the year, giving young players a route from practice room to stage.

Newcomers can request a free taster session, subject to availability. Bursaries and free places are also available for young people facing financial, medical or other barriers to taking part.

That access matters. Music projects can easily become something families assume is out of once lessons, instruments and travel are added together. Bandjam’s offer means the door stays open to young people who might otherwise miss out.

Musinc asks new participants to contact the team before booking so staff can check space in their chosen instrument group. The current autumn programme begins on Tuesday 1 September and continues through the term.

: Full joining information is available from Musinc. Dates and session details were also checked against the Middlesbrough Box Office listing.
