A group of players who helped Middlesbrough through one of the most important periods in the club’s history will reunite in September to support former teammate Gary Parkinson.
Middlesbrough’s Class of ’86 evening takes place at Middlesbrough Town Hall on Thursday 10 September. Doors open at 6pm, with the event beginning at 7pm.
The night is being organised to raise money towards Parkinson’s care. The former Boro full-back, who played for his hometown club between 1986 and 1993, has lived with locked-in syndrome since 2010 and requires round-the-clock support.
A reunion with a purpose
For supporters, the event offers a chance to revisit a team woven deeply into the club’s modern history. The Class of ’86 emerged during a period when Middlesbrough had faced severe financial problems and came close to disappearing altogether, before a young local side helped carry the club forward.
This evening, though, has a clear purpose beyond nostalgia. The official Middlesbrough Town Hall listing says the intention is to raise as much as possible for Parkinson’s care.
The event was originally due to take place in April but was moved to September. Existing tickets were transferred to the new date, with refunds available for those unable to attend.
Tickets currently start from £42.70 including the booking fee. Under-14s must be accompanied by an adult, and the venue says availability is limited.
It is a reunion built around football, but also around something simpler: former teammates and supporters showing up for one of their own.
