A Middlesbrough dancefloor will be doing more than filling up tonight. ECHOƎS is taking over The Middlesbrough Empire for an eight-hour charity fundraiser supporting Avarni-Mae and her family.
The multi-genre event runs from 8pm on Friday 28 August until 4am on Saturday, bringing together DJs and MCs from across the old-school dance scene. The line-up spans bounce, German trance, Colosseum classics and Makina, with performers including DJ NRG, Selector C, Cheeze, Makina Addicts UK, Tia Dee, Ethan Mackintosh, MC Tazo, Techno T, Kwex, Jet, Banks and Tempo.
At the centre of the night is Avarni-Mae, a young girl whose family is being supported following a of leukaemia which progressed to T-lymphoblastic lymphoma/leukaemia. The organisers say all proceeds from the event will go towards supporting Avarni-Mae and her family and helping them make memories together.
The fundraiser also carries some history of its own. ECHOƎS began last year as a night marking 20 years since the death of Colosseum Sue, reconnecting people around the music and community that surrounded the old-school rave scene. This year the event moves into The Empire with a larger production and a new cause at its heart.
Tickets listed by the venue are £12 for a limited early-bird place, £15 standard entry and £20 on the door, subject to availability. The event is for over-18s and the venue says ID is required as a condition of entry regardless of age.
