You do not need to read music, have a trained voice or arrive knowing anybody. Middlesbrough Town Hall’s community choir is starting a new autumn term with the invitation kept simple: if you want to sing, you can join in.
The Musinc group meets on Monday evenings during term time and is led by professional opera singers Emily Smith and David Pisaro. Sessions cover a broad mix of music, including pop, rock, classical, folk, gospel and traditional material.
The autumn programme begins on Monday 7 September. Sessions run from 6.45pm to 8.30pm at Middlesbrough Town Hall and cost £5.50 each.
The choir has developed into more than a weekly rehearsal. Members have performed at events across the region, including Ripon Cathedral, and have taken part in collaborative projects with other artists.
For anyone hovering at the edge of joining a choir because they think they are “not a singer”, Musinc is explicit that previous experience is not required. The group is open to adults of all ages and is designed to be social as well as musical.
