Hopetown Darlington is giving its railway museum a Halloween alter ego this October, with a free Spooktown programme built around a ghost train, trick-or-treat trail and family activities across the site.

The museum’s main event listing runs from 24 October to 1 November, with site admission free. That admission includes the Ghost Train in the Exhibition Hall, a Family Fun Day on 31 October, the Misfit Market on 1 November and the Trick or Treat Trail.

There is a second layer for families who want to add something more structured. On 26 October, an Into the Wild session brings Halloween-themed bushcraft to the site. Big Science returns on 30 October with demonstrations and experiments, while the same evening Hopetown hosts a separately ticketed Haunted Night at the Museum.

Adults and older visitors are not completely abandoned to the tiny vampires. A Spectre Detectors ghost-hunting evening is listed for 29 October, while the Little Monsters Halloween Bash follows on 31 October.

The result is less a single Halloween event than a small half-term programme, with the free core activities making it possible to visit without buying tickets for every add-on. Hopetown advises visitors to book free site admission, while the additional events carry their own prices and booking arrangements.

There is one date wrinkle worth knowing before planning a visit. Hopetown’s main event field gives the Spooktown run as 24 October to 1 November, while a separate ticketing panel on the same page currently says 25 October to 1 November. The Tees has the date shown in the primary event field but recommends checking the live booking page before travelling.
