People across Teesside have been given a chance to say a proper thank you to the NHS staff and volunteers who have made a difference to them.

University Hospitals Tees has opened nominations for its first Caring Better Together awards, covering colleagues, volunteers, services and teams working across James Cook University Hospital, the University Hospital of North Tees, the University Hospital of Hartlepool, the Friarage and community services.

Patients, relatives, carers, visitors and staff can nominate someone before Sunday 6 September. There are 13 categories, ranging from excellence and compassion to behind-the-scenes support, innovation, teamwork and lifetime achievement.

One category is specifically designed around the public voice. The Patient’s Choice award gives people who have used local NHS services an opportunity to recognise care that has stayed with them.

The awards also include a Heart and Soul of UHT category for exceptional kindness, compassion and humanity, alongside awards for rising stars, service transformation and teams working across organisational boundaries.

Winners will be announced on Monday 5 October at Teesside University’s Digital Life building, alongside University Hospitals Tees’ annual general meeting.

For a hospital group serving communities across Middlesbrough, Stockton, Hartlepool, Redcar and beyond, the nominations are a small way for local experiences of care to become part of the wider story of the NHS .
