Staithes will become a walkable village-wide gallery this month as its Arts and Festival returns for three days of exhibitions, music, workshops and local history.

The festival opens with a preview evening on Friday 11 September before the main artist trail runs on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September. Organisers say 113 artists are exhibiting across 67 venues, including around 15 students from The Northern School of Art.

Cottages, studios and community spaces throughout the fishing village will open as temporary galleries, with painting, ceramics, textiles, sculpture, photography and other work on display. The wider programme includes live music, creative workshops, demonstrations, outdoor cinema, family activities, heritage talks and guided walks.

Many parts of the festival are free, including entry to the artist trail. Some headline concerts and activities require tickets or advance booking.

The programme also keeps a strong connection to Staithes itself, exploring the village’s artistic, fishing and mining history alongside contemporary work. A free assisted taxi service between Chapel Yard and Bank Top is available for visitors with mobility or health needs.

The 2026 festival runs from Friday 11 to Sunday 13 September. Visitors are advised to check the official festival website for the latest programme, travel and accessibility information before setting off.
