Two of Saltburn’s best-known landmarks have been given a new poster-style as part of an art collection celebrating the places and character of Teesside.

The Victorian cliff lift and pier feature in the third design from Tees Business’s Infant Hercules collection. The artwork borrows the visual language of early twentieth-century British railway and travel posters, placing the cliff lift at the centre with the pier stretching towards the sea.

It follows earlier pieces built around Middlesbrough’s Transporter Bridge and a view from Roseberry Topping across the Tees.

Tees Business says the collection is conceived and creatively directed in-house, with used as part of the process of developing the finished imagery. The project takes its name from William Gladstone’s famous description of rapidly growing Middlesbrough as an “Infant Hercules” in 1862.

Further designs are planned around Teesside’s landmarks, and industrial story, with prints and other products expected to follow.
