A photographer who has spent more than 40 years documenting Teesside’s people, landscapes and cultural life is preparing for his first major solo exhibition.
Saltburn-based artist and musician Kev Howard will open From the Transitory at Redcar Palace on Friday 18 September, with an opening celebration from 6pm to 8pm. The exhibition then continues until 24 December.
The show combines new photography and film with material drawn from Howard’s archive dating back to the 1980s, including images of music festivals, art events, goth culture, protest marches, the Covid period and familiar Teesside landscapes.
Newer work includes a series photographing fruit and vegetables through ice, using discarded food to explore food and disrupted supply chains. Another strand, d-FORMED, examines attitudes towards disabled bodies and disability equipment.
Redcar Palace says many of the documentary photographs have never been publicly shown before.
The exhibition forms part of Turner on Tees, the wider programme of exhibitions and creative activity running across the Tees Valley alongside Turner Prize 2026 at MIMA in Middlesbrough. Turner on Tees is supported by National Lottery funding through Arts Council England.
The opening celebration on 18 September is open to everyone. Redcar Palace normally opens Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm.
