A pocket of protected wetland beside one of Stockton’s busiest urban corridors will become an outdoor classroom in September.
Tees Valley Wildlife Trust is holding a free guided natural history walk around Portrack Marsh and Maze Park on Saturday 26 September, from 10am to 12.30pm.
The walk will be joined by experts from Cleveland Naturalists Field Club, who will help people identify the plants, wildlife and habitats found across the two reserves.
Portrack Marsh is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, a legal designation used to protect some of the country’s most important wildlife and geological sites. Its location, tucked between roads, retail and the River Tees, makes it an unusually vivid example of nature surviving in the middle of an urban area.
The event is free and there is no need to book. The group will meet outside The Talpore on Whitewater Way. Dogs are welcome on leads and free parking is available nearby.
