A patch of protected wild space in the middle of the Tees Valley will become an outdoor classroom for a free guided nature walk this September.
Tees Valley Wildlife Trust is inviting people to explore Portrack Marsh and Maze Park nature reserves in Stockton-on-Tees on Saturday 26 September, from 10am until 12.30pm.
Experts from Cleveland Naturalists Field Club will join the walk to share their knowledge of the area’s flora, fauna and natural history.
Portrack Marsh is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, giving legal protection to a place recognised for its wildlife, habitats or geology. Together with neighbouring Maze Park, it creates a sizeable pocket of nature within Stockton’s urban landscape.
The walk is free, although donations to the Trust are welcome, and there is no need to book. Organisers say everyone is welcome, whether they already know the reserves or are visiting for the first time.
The group will meet outside the Talpore pub on Whitewater Way. Dogs can attend on a lead and free parking is available nearby. Visitors are advised to dress for the weather and wear suitable footwear.
