Soap bubbles get a surprisingly theatrical upgrade in Hartlepool next weekend, with a family show combining science, storytelling and some extremely ambitious bubble-making.
The Bubble Show comes to Hartlepool Town Hall Theatre on Saturday 5 September, performed by Guinness World Record holder and bubble artist The Highland Joker.
The hour-long production moves from tiny bubbles to giant ones, with smoke, fire and bubble sculptures worked into an interactive stage show. It is designed around the science of bubbles as much as the spectacle, using the subject as a route into storytelling and magic.
The Highland Joker has taken bubble performances to theatres, festivals and events in the UK and internationally. The performer’s own site describes the company as specialising in bubble shows, creative workshops and large-scale activities.
Doors at Hartlepool Town Hall open at 1.30pm, with the performance beginning at 2pm. Standard tickets are listed at £14.50 for adults and £12.50 for children, plus the venue’s booking fee, with restricted-view seats slightly cheaper.
It is a neat bit of programming for families who like their science served with a little theatre, and proof that there is considerably more engineering in a soap bubble than bath time usually .
