A Billingham student who helps care for her older sister and supports other young carers has achieved a perfect score in her Health and Social qualification.

Katie, from St Michael’s Catholic Academy, scored 100% in the qualification after sitting the exam in January. Her wider GCSE results included top grades in English Literature, History and Religious Education.

Alongside school, Katie helps care for her older sister Vicky and has worked with Eastern Raven Trust, a Stockton charity supporting young carers. Her experiences have also taken her into public speaking, including an appearance at Young Carer’s Day earlier this year.

She will now move on to Stockton Sixth Form College to English Literature, Sociology and Politics. Her results are impressive on paper, but the fuller story is about a young person finding room for academic ambition while already carrying responsibilities that many teenagers never have to consider.
