A series of improvements at Teesside International Airport are underway to prepare for an expanded summer 2021 flight schedule. The project includes the reopening of terminal areas that have been closed since 2014, as well as the introduction of new bars, a coffee shop, and two executive lounges.
Travellers will also see the return of duty-free shopping for the first time in eight years. The updated terminal will feature a dedicated family-friendly zone and a new manned passenger assistance desk to improve the experience for visitors.
Work, which is being carried out by local contractors, involves installing additional check-in desks and advanced security technology. New 3D hold baggage scanners and body scanners are being to speed up wait times by removing the need for passengers to separate electronics and liquids from their luggage.
The airport is preparing for a busy year, having recently secured new routes with Ryanair to Alicante and Majorca, alongside domestic services from Loganair and expanded summer flights to Bulgaria with Balkan Holidays. Recruitment for additional staff is scheduled to begin in the new year.
