A theatre company known for playful adaptations is attempting a fairly modest task in Middlesbrough this month: telling the story of Britain in under two hours.
The (Almost) Complete History of Britain, presented by The Pantaloons Theatre Company, comes to Middlesbrough Theatre on Thursday 10 September.
The production runs through centuries of history using live music, audience interaction and inventive retellings. The official listing gives a flavour of the approach, with Henry VIII recast through romantic comedy and the Spanish Armada given the operetta .
It is history with its tie loosened rather than a revision session, and the company is open about taking liberties with the record in the name of comedy.
Doors open at 6.45pm, with the performance starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are £18.60 including the booking fee and were still available when this article was published.
The (Almost) Complete History of Britain is at Middlesbrough Theatre, The Avenue, Middlesbrough, TS5 6SA, on Thursday 10 September 2026.
