Teesport’s bulks team has handled its largest single-calling corn vessel, discharging 57,800 tonnes from the ST Sofia.
PD Ports says on the contract has increased by 263% since 2016 following investment in equipment and training. That includes three electric Liebherr cranes and eco hoppers capable of loading a lorry in as little as 90 seconds.
The move towards electric equipment has an environmental benefit too. PD Ports estimates the three cranes cut by around 373 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent each year while increasing the port’s ability to handle large bulk cargoes.
