Tickets have gone on sale for a new dance-theatre production that will bring international performance, North East history and live music together on stage at ARC in Stockton.
The Tapestry of Voices is being created by Billingham International Folklore Festival of World Dance after the organisation secured £30,000 through Arts Council England's National Lottery Project Grants programme.
The production is built around two young explorers who enter a fictional Museum of Voices and uncover stories from different generations. The material draws on North East history, including the Stockton and Darlington Railway, the Durham miners' story, the Jarrow March and migration to the region.
The cast brings together actors, dancers and musicians working across several traditions. Artists announced for the project include Absolutely Legless, Balbir Singh Dance Company, Taste of Africa North East, Talentos Dance Company and a group of actors and storytellers from across the UK.
There are two performances currently announced. The first is at Ushaw Historic House, Chapels and Gardens on 28 November 2026, followed by ARC: Stockton Arts Centre on 6 February 2027. The Tees Valley What's On listing says tickets for the Stockton performance went on sale on Thursday 27 August.
The stage production also comes with a wider education programme. Artists connected to the show are due to deliver visual art, storytelling and theatre workshops in Billingham, Durham, Middlesbrough and Stockton through a project called Let's Create.
Billingham festival organisers describe the show as a way of looking at how people have moved, settled and shaped the region over time. It follows the festival's earlier production Departing at 18:25, which was inspired by the 200th anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway.
: The £30,000 award, creative team and outreach programme were checked against Billingham International Folklore Festival's announcement. The current Stockton date and ticket on-sale information were cross-checked with the Tees Valley What's On listing.
