A new supported internship at Asda in Stockton will give young adults the chance to build employability skills through a year of real workplace experience.

Stockton Riverside College is working with DFN Project SEARCH, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council and Asda Stockton to run the programme at the Portrack Lane store from September.

Learners will attend five days a week, splitting their time between classroom learning and work on the shop floor. They will be supported by a job coach and department mentor, with the programme focused on confidence, independence, employability and preparation for paid work.

Applicants must be aged 18 to 25 and have a current or SEN Support Plan. The college says participants should want to move towards paid employment and be able to travel independently, or be willing to learn the skills needed to do so.
