A Hartlepool skatepark is being turned into an arts venue for a new night bringing several corners of the town’s creative scene under one roof.
SIDESHOW takes over Tryin’ HQ on Avenue Road on Friday 25 September, mixing live music, drag, spoken word, burlesque and art in a four-hour event created by SIDEQUEST.
The idea is broader than a conventional gig or gallery night. People will be able to make art as well as watch performances, while the skatepark itself becomes part of the setting.
Organisers say the event is aimed at bringing together artists and audiences from across Hartlepool’s creative community. The first-party event page currently says the full line-up is still to come, so there should be more names to add before the doors open.
There is also an unusual no-camera approach. Visitors will be asked to cover their phone cameras on arrival, with organisers encouraging people to experience the performances in the room rather than through a screen.
The event runs from 7pm to 11pm at Tryin’ HQ, 28 Avenue Road, Hartlepool, and is for people aged 18 and over. Tickets are currently listed from £4.99.
It is another example of unconventional spaces becoming part of Hartlepool’s cultural life, giving emerging and performers somewhere to try work that does not necessarily fit a traditional theatre stage.
