Young visitors can get their hands on the controls of railway history at Preston Park Museum, where All Aboard! turns the story of the Stockton and Darlington Railway into a play space built for children.
The interactive exhibition includes a giant replica train with wheels to turn, coal to shovel and pistons to pump. Rather than asking younger visitors to simply look at railway history, the museum has built the experience around doing, experimenting and imaginative play.
All Aboard! is aimed at children aged eight and under. Sessions last 45 minutes and places need to be booked in advance, with slots listed through the day at 10am, 11am, noon, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm.
A valid museum admission pass is required, while only children need an additional timed ticket for the exhibition. Preston Park says the project forms part of the Tracks of Change exhibition series supported through the Stockton and Darlington Railway anniversary programme.
