A small locomotive with a very big day ahead is at the centre of a family storytelling event at Preston Park Museum this September.

Little Loco's Big Day, written by Caroline Hardie from Friends of Stockton and Darlington Railway, takes children back to the railway's historic opening day in 1825. Little Loco is nervous about pulling a train of grumbling, wonky waggons, while Herald the Horse worries about what the arrival of steam might mean for him.

The story uses that railway setting to explore courage, change and finding room for different strengths. Hardie will lead interactive storytelling sessions at Preston Park on Saturday 20 September, with sessions beginning at 10.30am, 11.30am, 1pm and 2.30pm.

The activity is drop-in and does not need a separate booking. It is included with museum admission, and copies of the Little Loco books will also be available in the museum shop for signing after the sessions.
