A Hartlepool filmmakers’ collective built around free access, practical support and local collaboration is marking its third birthday in September.

In The Frame Collective will hold its anniversary gathering at Blue Valentines on Church Street on Thursday 3 September, from 7pm to 10pm. The event is free.

The collective supports and emerging filmmakers through monthly screenings, talks, workshops, mentoring and networking. Its own description is refreshingly practical: the aim is to give people somewhere to meet, learn, share opportunities and build connections in the regional screen industries without putting cost in the way.

Three years of building a local screen community

For the anniversary, the usual programme of screenings and talks is being set aside for a social evening celebrating the network that has grown around the group.

In The Frame says its first three years have included community production work, workshops, industry conversations and opportunities for people at different stages of their careers to learn from one another.

The collective has also developed Lucky Penny, a community-centred short film designed to give established creatives somewhere to collaborate while opening the production process to people who are newer to film work.

The birthday event is open to existing members and newcomers. The organisers recommend a minimum age of 16 and ask anyone with access requirements to get in touch in advance.
