A weekly hub at Victoria Park is giving Hartlepool’s former service personnel and their families somewhere free to meet, talk and get practical support.
United For The Community, the charitable arm working from Hartlepool United, says funding from the Veterans Foundation is supporting its Armed Force Veterans Hub for two years.
The hub runs a free drop-in every Monday from 1.30pm to 3pm in Club 1908 at Victoria Park. Refreshments are provided and the sessions are designed to give veterans a regular peer network, particularly for people experiencing loneliness or isolation.
The wider programme also includes multi-sport activities such as indoor bowls and badminton, alongside trips to military sites and museums. Families and widows are included too, with visiting speakers able to offer guidance around areas including housing, benefits and dependency support.
Keith Nobbs, manager of United For The Community, said the hub provides an important connection and of support for veterans and their families. said peer-to-peer support creates a safe place for people to mix and socialise.
The project also aims to make it easier for people to raise concerns and be directed towards appropriate regulated services when more specialist help is needed.
Former service personnel and their families can attend the Monday sessions free of charge.
