Free and suicide- training places are available across Teesside this autumn, with online and in-person dates running from September into December.
The Tees-wide Training Hub says its programme is free for people living or working in Stockton, Redcar and Middlesbrough. Its aim is to increase mental health knowledge in local workplaces, community organisations and other settings where people may come into contact with somebody struggling.
The next date is a half-day Mental Health First Aid session delivered online on Thursday 10 September from 1pm to 5pm.
That is followed by safeTALK Suicide Alertness training in Hartlepool on Wednesday 16 September from 1pm to 4.30pm.
More dates later in the year
A two-day Applied Suicide Skills Training course, usually known as ASIST, is listed for Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 November in Hartlepool, running from 9am to 5pm on both days.
A further online Mental Health First Aid session is scheduled for Thursday 3 December from 1pm to 5pm.
Redcar and Cleveland Voluntary Development Agency’s current training listings independently confirm the four dates, describing them as free training delivered through the Tees-wide Training Hub and Let’s Connect.
Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council also lists the Hub among its local mental health resources, describing its role as helping organisations build knowledge and confidence around mental health.
Practical skills rather than specialist
These courses are not a replacement for care. Their purpose is different: helping ordinary people, staff and volunteers recognise concerns, respond more confidently and know how to connect somebody with appropriate help.
That distinction matters. A community does not need everybody to become a therapist, but it does benefit when more people know how to notice distress, have a safer conversation and understand where professional support begins.
Current dates and booking information are listed at the Tees-wide Training Hub. RCVDA also carries the upcoming programme through its training directory.
