Indie Rock Sensation The Rifles Set to Electrify Stockton’s KU in September

Iconic indie rockers, The Rifles, are making their long-awaited return to Teesside this September, performing at KU in Stockton.

This marks their first appearance in the region in nearly two decades and is part of the tour supporting their latest album, Love Your Neighbour, released in April. The show continues KU’s tradition of hosting top-tier talent at its historic Prince Regent Street venue.

Hailing from Chingford, The Rifles burst onto the indie scene in 2005 with hit singles like Peace & Quiet, When I’m Alone, and Local Boy. Known for their energetic garage rock sound, reminiscent of The Jam and The Kooks, they quickly garnered a dedicated following. The band’s journey began in 2003 with Joel Stoker (vocals), Lucas Crowther (guitar), Rob Pyne (bass), and Grant Marsh (drums). Their debut album, No Love Lost, produced by Ian Broudie, was released in July 2005, leading to major festival performances at V Festival and Underage Festival. Their second album, Great Escape, released in 2009, remains a fan favourite, featuring a memorable live performance at the PFA Awards.

Over the years, The Rifles have evolved, collaborating with notable producers like Charles Rees (Paul Weller) for their 2016 double album Big Life and returning to their acoustic roots with 2017’s The Rifles Unplugged Album, recorded at Abbey Road Studios.

Joining The Rifles for this special night are North East indie veterans The Voluntears, well-known for their dynamic performances on the KU stage and their impressive support slots.

KU, a cornerstone of Stockton’s live music scene, has previously hosted legendary indie acts such as Arctic Monkeys, The Enemy, We Are Scientists, and Reverend and The Makers. The venue continues to be a vital platform for both established and emerging Tees Valley artists.
