Seventeen people from Teesside and Skinningrove are preparing to start engineering careers with British Steel in September.
The new apprentices will work towards electrical, mechanical and structural engineering roles. Their training begins with TTE in with Middlesbrough College Group before they move on to practical experience at British Steel’s northern sites.
They are part of a wider intake of 70 apprentices and graduates joining the company after a recruitment campaign that attracted more than 1,000 applications from across the UK.
For the Teesside recruits, the route combines classroom and technical learning with direct experience inside a major local industry. British Steel says the intake is intended to develop the next generation of engineers and technical specialists needed for its .
The wider intake includes 36 apprentices in Scunthorpe, one apprentice at the company’s Sheffield and development centre and 16 graduates working across areas including engineering, manufacturing, commercial, finance and IT.
