Teesside University has partnered with The Teesside Charity to launch a new scholarship designed to support local students facing financial hardship. The programme aims to encourage those who might not traditionally consider to pursue university degrees.

The involves a pledge of £15,000 to support three undergraduate students over the next three years. Successful applicants will each receive £5,000 to assist with their in business or computing-related courses.

The scholarships are specifically aimed at students who would be the first in their family to attend university. The first recipient is expected to start their course in the autumn of 2022, with subsequent scholarships awarded in 2023 and 2024.

Lee Bramley, chair of The Teesside Charity trustees, stated that providing opportunities for local students to their potential remains a priority. The scheme is part of the broader Teesside Transformation Fund, which seeks to remove barriers to education through partnerships with alumni and corporate supporters.
