Two recent journalism graduates from Teesside University have secured professional roles within the university's own communications team.

Amy Askham and Lauren Heslop have successfully transitioned from their to full-time employment within Teesside University's Communications and Development department. Both graduates credit their time on the BA (Hons) Journalism course for providing the practical skills necessary for their new roles.

Amy Askham, who graduated in 2020, initially applied for early childhood studies before switching to journalism. During her degree, she completed a reporting project in India and identified an interest in public relations and digital media through her module work.

Lauren Heslop, a 2021 graduate, noted that the broad allowed her to explore different facets of the media industry. She developed her final year project by creating a professional social media campaign, which helped clarify her interest in communications.

Both graduates are now working as Communications Assistants. Their daily responsibilities include content creation and writing news releases to share the achievements of the local student and staff community.
