Hartlepool Health and Social Care Academy partners invite comments on future of industry

Industry experts and community members have met at Hartlepool College of Further Education to review plans for a new health and social care training facility funded by the Town Deal.

A new training facility, the Hartlepool Health and Academy, was unveiled at a public event this week. The project, which is part of the town’s £25 million Town Deal, aims to address skills shortages by training local people for careers in the medical and social care sectors.

The academy is a collaborative venture between North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, Hartlepool Borough Council, and Hartlepool College of . The proposed site will include simulated wards to provide hands-on experience for students.

During the event, attendees viewed drafted floor plans and prospective course lists for 2023. Officials highlighted that 20% of regional employment is concentrated in health and social care, making the academy a investment for the area’s future .

Dr Susy Cook, chief people officer for the Trust, stated that the academy is designed to local talent and support the growth of community-based services. This project is the final phase of the town's five-part transformation plan, which also includes the renovation of the former Wesley Chapel and improvements to Middleton Grange.
