Jamaal Ali, a second-year Accounting and Finance student at Teesside University, is helping local food businesses through his role with the online platform Boro Eats. The platform offers a community-based alternative to national delivery services by charging lower commission to takeaways in Middlesbrough.

Mr Ali, who has been working with the platform for three months, uses his financial knowledge to help business owners understand their costs and potential savings. The platform currently supports over 60 food businesses in the region and has registered 15,000 customers.

In addition to orders, Boro Eats invests 50 percent of its profits into promoting its partner businesses through social media. This approach aims to boost the local economy by encouraging residents to order from independent outlets rather than larger chains.

The university has praised the as an example of practical application of business education. Officials noted that the student’s involvement aligns with the institution’s focus on embedding entrepreneurial skills into the to support the local area.
