Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen has launched the 'Stay Local, Go Far' campaign to encourage students receiving their A level and BTEC results to explore career opportunities within the region. The is a component of the £3million TeesValleyCareers.com project, which provides guidance for 100,000 young people aged 11 to 18.

Recent figures show that 30% of young people typically leave the Tees Valley for university or employment. However, local in July 2021 were 35.7% higher than pre-pandemic levels recorded in February 2020.

The campaign aims to connect students with over 1,000 regional businesses, ranging from the gaming sector to clean energy and advanced manufacturing. Participating firms include the Middlesbrough-based game developer Double Eleven, Hartlepool circuitry manufacturer Merlin Flex, and FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies in Billingham.

Information on current and pathways, including university routes and apprenticeships, is available via TeesValleyCareers.com and the TeesValley.Jobs website. These platforms are designed to showcase local career options and link students with regional employers.
