Eleven students and recent graduates have concluded a five-week internship programme at the . The participants, aged 17 to 23, were recruited to provide support across various departments, including education, finance, and transport, while receiving the real of £9.50 per hour.
The was launched to support young people in the region who faced employment difficulties during the coronavirus pandemic. Placements were offered to students currently at university or those who had recently finished their A-levels or equivalent qualifications.
Michael Widdowson, a 22-year-old legal and intern, noted that the placement provided a practical application of his university . highlighted a tour of the Teesworks site as a key experience, allowing him to see how procurement law relates to large-scale industrial projects.
Aneliese Hodgson, also 22, worked with the transport team on projects involving and train initiatives. She reported that the experience offered her valuable insight into her career interests in chemistry and renewables.
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen stated that the interns provided fresh perspectives and contributed to the work of the Authority. The programme was scheduled to conclude on Friday, 27 August.
