Twelve schools across the region are set to benefit from a £311,000 investment to improve careers guidance for young people.

A £311,000 funding package has been awarded to provide enhanced careers support to 12 schools across the Tees Valley. The investment is part of the Department for Education’s Opportunity North East programme, aimed at raising aspirations and improving prospects for young people in the region.

The funding will more intensive, individually tailored guidance and increase opportunities for pupils to engage directly with local employers. This complements the existing TeesValleyCareers.com scheme, which was established in 2018 to bridge the gap between education and industry.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen noted that the programme aims to the range of local career paths available, encouraging young people to build their futures within the region. The has collaborated with hundreds of local businesses to provide meaningful workplace experiences, including recent STEM events for Year 10 students.

The regional approach to careers education has previously received national recognition for its vision and commitment. The latest funding arrives following the conclusion of National Careers Week.
