Wynyard Planetarium is preparing to start another season of family star shows, with the first date scheduled for Friday 4 September.

The evenings combine a presentation inside the planetarium with a guided tour of the night sky. If conditions are clear, visitors can also look through telescopes at the neighbouring Jack Youdale Observatory.

Go Stargazing lists the shows on the first, third and fifth Fridays of the month from September 2026 through to May 2027. The first show runs from 6.45pm to 8.30pm, with further dates already listed through the autumn and into next year.

The venue sits at Thorpe Thewles, near Stockton-on-Tees, and is run by the volunteer-led Teesside Astronomical Science Centre. Unlike the free Tuesday drop-ins, the Friday family shows require advance booking.

The format is broad. Families can see how the night sky changes, learn more about planets, stars and galaxies, then move from the dome to a real telescope when the clouds co-operate.

Dates and booking information are available on the Go Stargazing event page.
