Galleries and cultural organisations across all five Tees Valley boroughs are joining forces for a programme designed to make the arrival of the Turner Prize bigger than a single exhibition.
Turner on Tees runs through 2026 and into early 2027, connecting activity at Hartlepool Art Gallery, Redcar Palace, Darlington Library Gallery, ARC in Stockton, The Auxiliary and MIMA in Middlesbrough. Preston Park Museum & Gardens and the Dorman Museum are also part of the wider programme.
The idea is to put artists with Tees Valley connections alongside new and emerging talent, while creating routes for schools, young people and communities to take part. The programme runs in parallel with the Turner Prize 2026 exhibition at MIMA, which opens in September and continues until the end of March 2027.
That spread across the region is . Rather than concentrating the cultural moment in one building, Turner on Tees gives different towns and venues room to create their own exhibitions and activity, supported by organisations including MIMA, Tees Valley Arts, Creative Darlington and the Black Creatives & Arts Network.
The programme is supported by Arts Council England, MIMA and Teesside University and forms part of The Next Wave: Creativity Rising, a longer-term cultural for the Tees Valley.
: Programme details were checked against ARC Stockton Arts Centre’s Turner on Tees announcement, which identifies the participating venues, partners and regional programme.
