New and returning Teesside University students have two weeks of events ahead of them this September, with the Students’ publishing a Freshers programme that mixes nights out with quieter ways to meet people.
Freshers 2026 runs from Monday 21 September to Sunday 4 October across the Students’ Union building in Middlesbrough, including The Terrace, The Hub and its community spaces.
The programme is broader than club nights. Alongside headline events there are free activities, societies sign-ups, a crafting session, board games, movie screenings, free tea and toast, a dance party and a visit to the Turner Prize 2026 exhibition at MIMA.
For students who find the first weeks of university overwhelming, that range matters. There are several lower-pressure ways to meet people that do not depend on drinking or late nights.
Some events are free, while others are ticketed. Entry rules also vary, with some activities limited to Teesside University students and others allowing guests or members of the public. TUSU advises people to check the individual event listing before travelling.
