A familiar yellow puppy is heading for Middlesbrough Theatre next month, with a stage show designed to get some of its youngest audience members signing, dancing and joining in.
Spot’s Birthday Party, based on Eric Hill’s children’s books, plays the theatre on Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 September. Middlesbrough’s own box office lists performances at 2pm on Tuesday and 11am on Wednesday.
The production is aimed at children aged two and over and their grown-ups. Rather than asking its youngest theatre-goers to sit silently through the action, the show builds participation into the performance with songs, party games and integrated Makaton.
Spot is joined by characters including Steve the Monkey, Tom the Crocodile and Helen the Hippo as they prepare for his birthday. Every ticket also includes a meet-and-greet with Spot after the performance.
The show is produced by Sam Bradshaw Productions, which is taking the adaptation on a UK tour during 2026. The producer’s current tour information independently confirms Middlesbrough as one of the September stops.
Tickets are currently listed by Middlesbrough Box Office at £16.60 including the booking fee. Doors open 45 minutes before the show.
