A feature film written, filmed and set in Middlesbrough is getting a special screening at Teesside University as the new academic year begins.
Another World is the work of local filmmaker Sean Sadler and follows two characters, Mac and Jack, through a story about identity, connection and being able to live authentically. The university says the screening is intended to celebrate local creativity alongside LGBTQ+ storytelling and inclusion.
Sadler began developing the project in 2018 and completed the screenplay during the 2020 lockdown. From there, the film grew into a six-year project, with production taking place across Middlesbrough and making use of local talent.
Actors Giles Whorton and Isaac Moore, both of whom have strong connections to the area, are among those involved in the film. For Teesside University, the screening also offers staff and students a chance to see a piece of filmmaking rooted firmly in the town around them.
It is another small but useful reminder that local culture is not only something brought into Teesside. It is being written, filmed and made here too.
