A Hartlepool community pub has completed a £190,600 transformation into a sports-focused venue after reopening in March.

The Greenside on Stockton Road temporarily closed on 2 March while the refurbishment was carried out, before reopening on 18 March as one of Marston’s Grandstand sports pubs.

The work introduced a three-metre-long, 1.68-metre-tall main screen, upgraded sound, flexible tiered seating and television screens in the refurbished outdoor area. The venue also added a sports-focused food and drink offer alongside its existing pub menu.

Pub partner Alison Marcus said in the material supplied ahead of the reopening that the team wanted to create a stronger big-event atmosphere for people watching major fixtures.

The pub also invited residents to contribute photographs and other local sporting memorabilia for the refurbished interior, with the aim of reflecting teams and sporting figures from the area.

The Greenside’s current website now describes the venue as a Hartlepool sports pub and lists a stadium-sized indoor screen, outdoor TVs, pool and darts among its facilities. Its sports programme covers football, rugby, Formula 1, darts, horse racing and other major events.

The transformation also introduced Marston’s Order & Pay service and a matchday food offer, while local sports teams were invited to apply for the venue’s Black Card scheme.

The Greenside is at Stockton Road, Hartlepool, TS25 5BQ. Current opening times, fixtures and booking information are available from The Greenside’s official website.
