Teesside University has received the University of the Year for Social Inclusion award, marking a steady rise in the national league table since 2018. The accolade recognises the institution’s efforts to improve access to for underrepresented groups.

Alastair McCall, editor of the guide, noted that the university consistently recruits from postcodes with low participation . Statistics that 30.6% of its students originate from POLAR Q1 groupings, compared to the national of 12%.

Professor Paul Croney, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive, described the award as a reflection of the university's mission to support students from all backgrounds. added that the institution focuses on providing scholarships, digital skills training, and business network access to ensure student progression.

A portion of the student body consists of adult learners balancing family and professional commitments. Over 40% of graduates remain in the region, contributing to the local and economic development.
