The Teesworks commemorative coins, manufactured by Middlesbrough’s William Lane Foundry using reclaimed metal from the site, sold out in four months. The raised a total of £26,145.50 for two Redcar-based organisations, Walk N Talk and Ladies of Steel.
The group Walk N Talk received £13,456, which will be used to fund counselling services and create a 'Happy to talk' bench for the Redcar seafront. The voluntary group Ladies of Steel was awarded £12,687, enabling the purchase of equipment for their youth club and the expansion of community summer events.
The project was overseen by the Teesworks Taskforce, which has also been documenting the site's transformation through photography and video in collaboration with Historic England. This ensures a record of the area's industrial legacy remains for future generations.
The former steelworks site is currently undergoing rapid redevelopment to accommodate new clean energy and manufacturing projects.
