A specialist kit bag designed by the district nursing team at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust is now being adopted by healthcare providers across England. Developed to replace informal carry-alls, the system is to save the equivalent of 240 patient visits per nurse each year by reducing the need for return trips to base or vehicle boots.
The kit consists of six individual bags, including a main mobile carrier and four , colour-coded inserts. It is manufactured from antimicrobial material to assist with infection control and can be unfolded to create a sterile field for patients in their own homes.
A involving 100 district nurses found that the new system could save organisations £2,286 per employee annually. The design is fully customisable, allowing individual Trusts to brand the bags and adapt internal compartments for specific medical supplies like sharps bins.
The product is brought to market by NTH Solutions, the Trust’s commercial subsidiary. Practice development lead and district nurse Moraig Orpen noted that the system has helped improve staff organisation and provided patients with increased confidence during home visits.
