Sally Dack, a nurse in the podiatric surgery team, has been awarded the hospital’s star of the month. The award recognises her efforts in providing high-quality training and placements for student nurses.
Over the past two years, Dack has received consistent recognition from Teesside University for the standard of her placements. She ensures that students gain experience across both outpatient and theatre environments, offering them a comprehensive view of the profession.
Professor Jane Metcalf, deputy medical director, presented the award after reviewing the nomination, noting the collaborative spirit of the team. Specialist registrar Lesley Posymk, who nominated Dack, highlighted her commitment to mentoring students and supporting colleagues, including bank staff.
In addition to her mentorship role, Dack has recently taken on the position of peri-operative operational lead. In this role, she encourages team debriefs after theatre procedures to foster continuous improvement and feedback.
The podiatric surgery department currently handles a variety of clinical procedures and regularly hosts visiting healthcare staff.
