The new recruits, who were originally set to qualify in September, have entered placements to bolster the during the current crisis. The was coordinated with Health Education England as part of a national effort to increase capacity within hospitals and community services.
The students will undergo formal inductions and mandatory training before joining their assigned clinical teams. They will receive supervision and preceptorship support throughout their time at the Trust.
Jean Angus, head of nursing education and placements, described the deployment as a operational task. She noted that the students' contributions would be essential to the care of patients and the support of existing staff during the pandemic.
Two of the students, Zoe Slasor and Rebecca Blackwood, have been placed in the haematology unit at the University Hospital of North Tees. Their matron confirmed that the team is dedicated to supporting their professional development during this period.
