Dr Bryan English, a highly experienced sports medic, has joined North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust to assist with the pandemic response. His placement is being supported by Middlesbrough Football Club, where serves as a top medic, while the current season is paused.

Dr English will work at urgent care centres in Stockton and Hartlepool, focusing on patients with musculoskeletal issues and fractures. This support aims to free up other medical professionals to manage the surge in COVID-19 cases.

With a background that includes working at Chelsea and Derby County, as well as with Team Great Britain during two Olympic Games, Dr English also has prior experience as an orthopaedic consultant within the NHS. He expressed gratitude to Steve Gibson and the club for allowing him to offer his support to the health trust.

Dougal Southward, an emergency care consultant at the Trust, noted that Dr English’s expertise will be valuable to the organisation. The deployment serves as a local example of institutional cooperation during the current health crisis.
